Promising junior golfer Jake Higginbottom, 14, will join more than 250 talented young golfers at the Jack Newton International Junior Classic from October 7 to 10.
The tournament is a pet project of Australian golfing stalwart Jack Newton and attracts the most competitive and talented young golfers from around the world.
Now in its 25th year the tournament attracts competitors from China, Singapore, Fiji and New Zealand.
After winning the World Children’s Games in San Francisco earlier this year and the age state tittles for the previous three years, Higginbottom is a strong contender for the 14 years age group title.
Higginbottom said he had played golf for about four and a half years and the trip to the US was his first time overseas to play.
“I play on Charlestown golf course most days of the week and I was chosen to go over and play in San Francisco with another young bloke.
“The club and dad helped raise the money and we went over and I won.
“I would like to be a professional player one day; I’ll just keep trying my best, that’s all I can do.”
Higginbottom will be in good company if he is successful in the upcoming Jack Newton tournament.
Former winners include two-time USPGA winner current world number four PGA player Aaron Badely; USPGA winner Adam Scott; former number one female Karie Webb; and two-time ladies European champion Nikki Garrett.
