Melbourne gun on the money

13 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
THIRTEEN-year-old Ryan Ruffels is in the box seat to claim the Wodonga Junior Masters today after the Melbourne young gun dominated proceedings on day one.

Ruffels, from Victoria Golf Club, shot a two-under score of 70 to hold a two-shot lead with a round to play.

Border talent Zach Murray is next best heading into the final day of play, with the Wodonga golfer shooting an even par score of 72 in his first 18 holes.

It’s no surprise that the pair currently sit first and second in the under-15 section, with Shepparton’s Kyle Michel the pacesetter in the under-18s.

Buoyed by the no-show of favourite Frazer Droop, Michel shot a score of 74 on day one, putting the youngster four shots clear of Yarrawonga’s Mitch Davis and Wodonga’s Jayden Walker (78).

Meanwhile, Jubilee’s Georgia Macklan is well clear in the female section, shooting a two-over (74) on day one.

Cobram’s Jaydon Vaenuku is Macklan’s nearest rival, shooting seven-over (79).

Chiltern’s Ethan Boxall and Wangaratta’s Sam McLean lead the net score section, shooting net scores of 63.
