ALBURY Commercial Club bowler Alan Morcombe has joined elite company by being awarded life membership.
Morcombe, 76, has been acknowledged for his many years of service with the club.
His name is now in esteemed company with the late Paul Wallace, Alan Oddy, John Coughlan and Terry Stephens.
They all made huge contributions to the club’s administration in the past 20 years and have held positions with the Albury and District Bowling Association.
Morcombe joined the club in 1976, had two terms as club president, was on the committee for 13 successive years and in recent seasons has been a member of the district match committee.
He managed to win a B grade singles at the club, a State President’s singles at district level and State President’s pairs with Theo Stanley.
Morcombe’s award was announced at the club’s recent presentations.
Paul Davies had an outstanding season for Commercial Club which culminated in him being runner-up in the Albury and District Bowling Association’s bowler-of-the-year award in the top grade.
Davies polled 24 votes to finish two behind Henty’s George Beckett in the grade 2 competition.
But Davies managed to win three events at club level and was a member of the teams which were runners-up in the triples and fours championships.
Davies won the handicap singles, the C grade singles and consistency, defeating Graham Maddox, Colin Palmer and Morcombe respectively.
The fours were won by Palmer, Bob Hillier, Morcombe and Ray Beer.
Davies teamed with John Houston and skip Les Masterson in the triples, but they lost to Tom Gascoyne, Eric Cossor and skip George Cocks.
The mixed pairs were won by Evelyn and Les Murphy against Fortune Warren and Graeme Howard.
Bruce Ronan, Cossor and Terry Stephens won the John Coughlan triples, with Palmer and David Barnes claiming the Hodge Kimball pairs.
The Alan Oddy quadrapartite was won by Jeff Gates and Greg Hunt.
Noel Stephens and Les Murphy won the pairs championship against Col Roddy and Ted Meiers.
Albert Allen won his first singles championship defeating Graham Maddox and Bob Hillier.
