WODONGA-based Drummond Motor Sport will supply the controlled suspension for the V8 Ute Racing Series for the next three years.
The family-owned operation, which has been supplying its own designed and manufactured shock absorbers and springs to local and overseas motoring enthusiasts and teams for almost three decades, will supply the components for the 32 Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon utes which compete in the series.
Trevor Drummond, who operates the machines which produce the key shock absorber components, said it was a coup for the business which won the contract ahead of more fancied manufacturers.
“The performance and the durability of our product and our ability to meet the financial criteria set down by the category got us the nod,” Drummond said.
“We are now manufacturing 25 sets of shockers and springs plus spares per brand.
“We will be attending each of the eight rounds which make up the annual series and as our components are new to the teams, we will be helping them set their utes up if need be.
“Our shock absorbers are matched with springs manufactured for Drummond Motor Sport by King Springs and sets will be delivered on time ready for the opening round of the Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series which begins at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 1.”
The deal to deliver the controlled components was partly brought about by Wayne Williams of Corowa-based Williams Race Tech which prepares several of the racing utes.
“It was Wayne’s insistence that we approach the category to supply components that won us the contract,” Drummond said.
The three-year deal is another feather in the cap for the Border business which was founded by Trevor’s dad Jaimie in 1985.
“There are just the three of us here — dad the engineer, mum Yvonne who does all the paperwork and myself. We are very proud of our achievements and we are looking forward to working with the ute guys,” Drummond said.
