LOCK makers Lockwood, will sponsor Brad Jones Racing’s No.14 Commodore in this year’s V8 Supercar Series Championship.
The car will be driven by Fabian Coulthard.
Lockwood Racing’s new livery was launched at the company’s Melbourne headquarters on Tuesday.
The lock and security products company joins BOC (Jason Bright No.8) and Wilson Security (David Wall No.21) at Albury-based BJR.
“They were a smaller sponsor with us and have stepped up this year, which is really good,” team co-owner Brad Jones said.
Jones believes the addition of Kiwi Coulthard to the team will make it a strong outfit.
“Once Fabian gets all settled in, I think we’re going to be pretty strong,” Jones said.
Coulthard, who makes his debut for BJR this season, said it was an exciting time with a new team, a new sponsor and a new car.
“I just can’t wait to get the season under way and get some results,” Coulthard said at the launch.
“Lockwood is full of very passionate people who are obviously very into their racing.
“They’ve got a lot of ideas about what they should do and I’m just so happy to work with them.
“It sounds like it’s going to be fun and we’ll both benefit.”
Coulthard will get to drive his Lockwood Commodore for the first time at the official Sandown Test and Launch Day in Melbourne tomorrow week.
And BJR is remembering driver Jason Richards in a special way with a specially designed JR shooting star logo which will adorn the B pillar of the three BJR team cars.
The popular Kiwi racer died after a battle with a rare form of cancer late last year.
The logo will be a feature on every car fielded by Brad Jones Racing in the future, in the same way that the Williams Formula 1 team displays a logo on its cars in honour of former team driver Ayrton Senna.
And in other V8 Supercar news, Fujitsu Racing-GRM has surprised just about everyone by signing Frenchman Alexandre Premat.
Premat, who has never raced a V8 Supercar before, will replace Lee Holdsworth in the No.33 Commodore for this season.
Premat is a former winner of the Macau Grand Prix and has raced for Audi in the DTM for four seasons and the Le Mans 24 Hour.
He also won the 2008 Le Mans Series for Audi.
He helped France to claim the A1 Grand Prix of Nations championship in 2005-06 and finished third in the 2006 GP2 Series.
Last year he drove in sportscar racing for OAK Racing after parting ways with Audi.
