MITTA United Netball Club is the fifth recipient of $2000 worth of sporting equipment in The Border Mail’s Game On promotion.
Also supported by the RACV and Rebel Sport, the promotion aims to give sporting clubs in need a helping hand, precisely the reason Lindsey Duncan decided to enter.
In her entry form, she said the club was “bursting at the seams” with its small budget and high travel costs.
Duncan, who was vice-president of the club until recently stepping down from the post, said the club’s distance from Albury put a strain on family’s finances and said the prize would be a huge boost.
“The main reason I entered the competition was because I find the same people are helping out the club all the time,” she said.
“They’re the ones who donate time and money to the club and because it’s a pretty small community out here those people help out with other clubs and schools as well and it adds up.
“So I thought if we won it would ease the pressure on those families.”
The senior netballer said she received a shock when she was notified of the win.
“I was absolutely rapt with winning, it was a real surprise,” she said.
“I actually forgot about the entry so when I got told about (winning) it was a real shock.”
She said the club was always in need of netball equipment but a second set of goal-post padding was high on the agenda.
“We need a lot of things but the main one would be post padding,” she said.
“We have two training grounds during the season — one at Eskdale and one at Mitta — and parents have to transport the padding in their cars which can be pretty difficult.
