Federal already has sights set on eight straight

06 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
SEVEN-time premiership-winning coach Christine McKimmie declared she will be back to contest an eighth after Federal won the Upper Murray netball premiership.

Federal won its seventh consecutive title on Saturday with a 54-43 win over Cudgewa Blues at Bullioh.

The Swans took the lead in the opening term and continued to build from there.

McKimmie said winning seven titles in a row came down to the quality of the team.

“It’s a great team, that’s very skilful and determined,” McKimmie said.

“But I think we are also flexible and when things don’t work or opponents try to stop us we tend to change things up.”

Centre Kristin McKimmie and defender Claudia Byrne were named best on ground.

McKimmie said she believed the team would be back for a shot at an eighth next year.

“I think everyone is really keen (to go again),” McKimmie said.

“I think after the other seasons someone has left ... but at this stage everyone is keen.”

Federal held its club vote count yesterday and McKimmie won the A-grade award.

Kristin McKimmie and Sally Walker were runners-up.

Meanwhile, in B-grade Corryong narrowly defeated Federal 30-29, in C-grade Cudgewa overcame Federal 25-18 and in D-grade Federal beat Cudgewa 27-17.
