CANBERRA Raiders second rower Bronson Harrison believes his team couldn’t have had a better first-up trial match than Melbourne Storm at Lavington Oval tonight.
Harrison rates the Storm as the team to defeat for the NRL premiership and is looking forward to seeing the improvement in coach David Furner’s line-up.
“We need to get the cobwebs out so the first hit-out will be good for us,” Harrison said.
“Hopefully we can get a couple of wins in the trials and carry that form into the season.
“I can’t wait to play.
“It wasn’t one of my or the team’s best seasons last year and Melbourne will show us where we are at.
“The intensity has been building and building at training but you can’t really compare it to a game.”
Harrison, who joined the Raiders in 2009 after five years with Wests Tigers, believes it’s important to bring NRL to regional centres.
“It’s good for the country centres,” he said.
“We have done a fair of travelling this week and the boys have enjoyed it.”
Goalkicking centre Jarrod Croker and prop David Shillington are the main absentees from the Raiders’ side because of injuries.
