Despite missing star goalkeeper Linda Weatherlake and Canberra recruit Melissa Nicholson, the Sharks were on their game from the outset, suffocating their opponents to take a 5-1 lead into the half-time break.
Sharks star Leah Dodd said the dominant nature of her team’s win was a huge confidence booster with finals just around the corner.
“We were pretty happy with the win considering it was one versus two on the ladder,” Dodd said.
“We were missing four players including Linda, who’s obviously a really important player for us, and Mel (Nicholson) so it was a good effort.
“We had a really solid start to lead 5-1 at half-time and we were able to keep them at bay for the rest of the game.”
Dodd top-scored for the Sharks snagging four goals while Gemma Harangozo was also busy for the victors chipping in with two goals.
Leah West top-scored for Northside with two goals.
In men’s A-grade water polo, Sharks came through yesterday’s double header with full points defeating Northside Stingrays and Pool Pirates to claim top spot on the ladder.
Shannon Gould and Matt Hogan scored three goals apiece against Northside to lead their team to a convincing 11-7 victory.
Brad Woodland and Chaz Sargeant worked hard all game for the Stingrays, finishing with a combined five goals.
In Sharks’ second game a standout four-goal individual performance from Matt Hogan helped sink the Pirates 9-4.
Will Groth chipped in with two goals.
