 All party, no responsibility

All party, no responsibility

NOBODY likes cleaning up after a party, but it has to be done and it’s particularly necessary when you have hired a ratepayer-funded venue.

Albury Council ratepayers can rightly feel irked that a teenage birthday celebration at Lavington’s Mirambeena centre ended with discarded bottles and cans strewn about with no regard for bins nearby.

The thoughtlessness of party guests resulted in the council having to pay its own team to clean up indoors and outdoors on Sunday and arrange private contractors to complete the work yesterday.

Quite appropriately, a $600 bond is likely to be forfeited by the hirers.

But the issue highlights more than just the mechanics of venue hire, it reflects a lazy and irresponsible mentality.

That applies to both the parents and teenagers involved.

The parents should have stayed to the end of the night and the youths should have been made to clean up.

Unfortunately the council has been letdown, neighbours left frustrated and the next day’s 60th party guests were left wondering at the teens of today.

We share those feelings and hope the actions are not repeated.
