Have a say in club’s future

16 Mar, 2010 01:00 AM
SS & A Club members should give careful consideration to attending tonight’s meeting that will consider cost-cutting measures including the closure of the Wodonga clubhouse two days a week.

The crisis meeting will hear details of the financial issues facing the club, which owes almost $3.7 million on the $6 million it spent at the golf course when it was purchased four years ago.

The club faces significant financial commitments including refurbishment of its Albury premises and the costs of improving irrigation and bidding on its existing poker machines at Wodonga.

Tonight’s meeting should be an imperative for those members of the golf club but even those members who do not utilise the Wodonga club should also take an interest in the future of what is one of the club’s major sporting and recreational resources.

New chief executive Tim Levesque is offering the meeting as an occasion for members to have their say and he is obviously hoping for a substantial turnout among those willing to offer their views.

But it will also be up to the club’s board and executive to listen carefully to those views and determine their substance as worthwhile input into a solution to the club’s problems.
