IN the next few months, many Border public hospital patients will meet and be treated by some of the doctors who will spend a large part of this year in the region as part of their specialist training.
For some of the doctors it will be their first exposure to practising medicine in a regional area; others have already had that opportunity and have sought to extend that experience to a further rotation with Albury Wodonga Health.
Yesterday, the doctors met each other and senior hospital staff who will oversee their training while they are here.
It is an important period for the registrars for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they will supervise junior medical staff and support existing specialists, helping to deliver medical services in the region.
Secondly, their experiences in Albury-Wodonga may encourage them to establish their practices in a regional area such as the Border once they have completed their final training.
Albury Wodonga Health is one of only two or three health services throughout Victoria to have as many as the 26 new registrars who are on rotation to the region this year.
It will be an important period in their training and hopefully an influential one with regards to their futures.
