 Bad advice adds to confusion

Bad advice adds to confusion

27 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
I READ your article “Road anomalies drive confusion” (The Border Mail, August 16) with interest.

When my son first passed his learner driver test 11 months ago, we specifically asked a consultant at VicRoads (and asked another for clarification) if my son could also drive to the speed limit in NSW (as he can in Victoria), or whether, once over the border, he had to stay at the 80km/h limit.

We were told that wherever he was in Australia he could “drive to the particular conditions of his licence” and the normal speed limit, even in NSW.

According to your article, that was the wrong advice.

I do understand the onus is on the driver to understand road rules but the reality is that it is getting harder and harder to wade our way through the paperwork, legalities, liabilities, rules and regulations that govern so much of our lives.

If the experts can’t work it out, what hope is there for us!
