I was left with the cost of the damage and the only option I had was to take the parents to court to try to recover the cost.
It’s said that out of control children are quite often a product of either bad parenting or a bad environment, so who takes financial responsibility when these kids start lashing out at the society they live in?
It’s simple, they do.
What about a scheme that involves the Government compensating the financial victims of youth crime and when the child turns 18 and is no longer a child, make them pay back the government, with interest, the money that was shelled out to compensate the victims of their childish and stupid behaviour.
Knowing they might face a huge bill might just make them put down the rock.
Failing that, why don’t we just do the one thing that most people believe is the most common sense approach — make the parents pay. It can’t be that hard.
This won’t stop little mongrels from being little mongrels, but how about we try to look after the victims first and then worry about the poor little vandals.
