Radio a vital tool for truckies

31 Jan, 2012 11:48 AM
ON the topic of hand-held radios, (The Border Mail, January 21), I drive a truck and use my radio all day long.

I use my Bluetooth ear piece for my mobile phone while driving.

It’s all about communication.

Drivers use these to get our job done in a professional manner.

To stop our trucks fully loaded, take a quick call then proceed through our gears to a set of red lights would end in freight being late and a lack of professionalism.

We also use unloading gloves, have a fully equipped first aid kit and most have hand sanitisers.

I am a woman with children, have the appropriate qualifications and certificates of a heavy rigid licence, forklift licence and first aid certificate. I always consider health and safety.

I can change a tyre with my hazard triangles in place and I also wear a hat and lip gloss sunscreen.

Mr Lowndes, don’t be narrow minded, not everyone’s the same.

Don’t try to make the rules harder for us working people — the police have a hard enough job keeping up with the idiots on the road.

— L. HARDY,

Thurgoona
