Twin cities have own great pies

Twin cities have own great pies

ELIZA Adamthwaite’s feature story on Dr Jonathon Howard’s Pie Trail proposal (The Border Mail, March 13) was interesting but I believe devoid of essential local bakery information.

The story failed to mention that before you get in your car and leave Albury-Wodonga you can pick up some pretty amazing pies, equal to the best found across the region.

I know of two brilliant bakeries here in the twin cities, both making delicious meat pies from scratch.

It is always a delight to buy a pie made in-house, by locals.

Those bakeries are Hot Bake in Lavington and Henri’s in Wodonga.

Leith Falconer’s Hot Bake has been baking pies since 1972.

Ian Shirley of Henri’s Bakery has been in the business for over 20 years.

Henri’s Wodonga is in fact home to the iconic “biggest rolling pin”.

Both bakeries contribute to our tourist trade by providing delicious food to our hungry visitors.

It is wonderful to support our regional destinations but we shouldn’t forget that we have excellent businesses in Albury-Wodonga.
