 Waste collection outcome is poor

Waste collection outcome is poor

18 Mar, 2010 01:00 AM
NOT surprisingly the Albury councillors have again made a decision neglecting the welfare and interests of their ratepayers.

The service in the form of a rubbish collection was appreciated by our senior citizens, such as myself who do not have an alternative to remove larger than normal tree cuttings, packaging and dead appliances.

A voucher will be of no benefit as most of us do not have trailers, nor the capacity to load and deliver same.

On the other hand we find our elected representatives deem it desirable to spend a huge amount of our rate money on the restoration of the white elephant, aka the Cumberoona, on the river.

Most of our citizens, dare I suggest, would prefer to have their surroundings kept in an acceptable condition than pour an ever mounting sum of money on this rundown boat.

The river level is not reliable enough to warrant the expenditure, and no one worries about the state of the river with the amount of salt to be absorbed from the Norske Skog Mill.

What a precedent this decision is setting!

Evidence of pollution of our precious resource is in the bare salt pans further down the Murray.

Why would every production company with waste to dispose of not just empty it into the river? The repercussions are horrifying.

— GLORIA COOK,

Lavington
