A long list of free entertainment has been arranged for pets and their owners including obedience training, free pet health checks, free dog and cat microchipping for Albury residents, a doggie wash, pet parade and product samples and giveaways from 10am.
Pet owners can also tap into the experience of local trainer Brydie Charlesworth.
In April last year, Ms Charlesworth received a call from the Albury Pound asking if she would be interested in working with a dog due to be euthanised the next day.
Missy had experienced nothing but mistreatment including being brutally trained as a guard dog and then abused and kept without shelter.
She produced 32 puppies before being dumped on the street.
Missy couldn’t be re-homed and stared down certain death.
But she was adopted by Ms Charlesworth and with plenty of patience, hard work and careful training, Missy and her wayward temperament turned around.
Missy can now work with children.
Albury Council’s senior ranger Darren McFarlane said animal lovers should make the most of Pets Day Out.
“While it’s a day devoted to taking care of your pet, it’s also a lot of fun,” he said.
“We’ve got heaps of competitions including cutest pet, tallest pet and fluffiest pet.”
