Learner driver faces charges after crackdown

Police have impounded a learner driver's car, after the 18-year-old was this morning caught in Northcote driving unaccompanied, with an overloaded car.

The teen driver was pulled over on High Street as part of Operation Face the Music, which this morning detected nine people allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and one of drugs.

Police also ran the operation on Saturday morning - nabbing seven drink drivers.

Police say the 18-year-old learner driver from Coburg is expected to be charged on summons with various traffic related offences.

In a separate incident, an Essendon man's car was impounded in Southbank last night.

Police stopped the man's car in Normanby Road at about 7.45pm.

Police say four people, including an 11-year-old girl, were sitting in the back seat.

The 45-year-old man was fined $689 and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Police say the man is expected to be charged on summons with overloading a vehicle.
