Even women got in on the act, sporting stick-on moustaches on their upper lips to help raise funds for the Movember Foundation.

Event organiser Matt Williams said the ride had been a huge success with more than $10,000 expected to have been raised.

“Movember is a push to promote men’s health in rural communities,” Mr Williams said.

“A lot of people suffer from a lot of different health issues and men especially overlook them which ends up worse down the track.”

There were 225 registered riders at the event, plus another 100 people at the family event which followed and 70 volunteers.

“It’s a great effort for a town of only 1200 people,” Mr Williams said.

“The whole event’s probably gone much better than expectations and it’s been great for the town which has jumped on board.”

Mr Williams said it was hoped the event would return even bigger next year, with MoRide with horses, MoWalk and MoRide with vintage cars.

The foundation raises funds and awareness about men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health.

Many of the riders had first-hand experience of prostate cancer or knew people who had battled the disease.

One rider, who wanted to be known only as Barry, said he hoped men realised there was nothing to be afraid of in having a check up.

“I had a prostatectomy three years ago and I would dread to think where I would be now if I hadn’t,” he said.

“It can alter your lifestyle but there’s nothing to be frightened of provided it’s caught early.

“You move in your peer group so you’re telling older guys, you need to do this and have (a prostate exam).”
