A MELBOURNE man was killed and four people injured when a car crashed into a tree off the Hume Highway yesterday afternoon.

Albury police Inspector Matt Tishler said a Toyota Corolla was travelling north when it left the road about 10 kilometres south of Holbrook at 5pm.
He said the car, carrying five young men believed to be from Victoria, crashed into a tree down an embankment.
Insp Tishler said the front-seat passenger was killed and the driver and three passengers were taken to Albury Base Hospital.
It is believed the dead man is from the Melbourne suburb of Nunawading.
The driver and two passengers have minor injuries and the fourth person chest injuries.
Insp Tishler said the cause of the crash had not yet been determined but no other cars were involved.
Passengers in two cars witnessed the crash.
It was the second fatal crash in NSW yesterday, after a woman front-seat passenger in a Nissan Skyline died after the vehicle left the road and hit a power pole on Sydney’s northern beaches,.
The woman, thought to be in her 20s or 30s, died at the scene of the crash on Myoora Road at Terrey Hills, which happened at 6am.
The driver, a man, 33, was flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
A 30-year-old man from Cabramatta, who was in the back seat, was flown to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Meanwhile, 10 people died in two accidents on Saturday.
A car which had been travelling the wrong way on a the Princes Freeway for at least 25 kilometres hit another vehicle travelling towards Melbourne at Lara, near Geelong, just after 1am.
Killed were the sole occupant of the car travelling the wrong way, a woman, 32, from Roxburgh Park, and four people from the other vehicle, two men, both 23, from Werribee, a woman, 24, from Hoppers Crossing and a Werribee woman, 23.
Two men from Werribee, were taken to Melbourne’s The Alfred hospital, one in a critical condition.
Police received several calls from motorists reporting a car travelling on the wrong side of the freeway.
Just after midnight on Saturday, another five people were killed after a sedan was struck from behind when it broke down and drove onto the safe shoulder of the Pacific Motorway at Coomera on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
The crash killed the 18-year-old driver of the second car as well as four in the broken down Holden Statesman, which caught fire, including a couple both 20, who leave a baby orphaned, and a man, 18 and his girlfriend, 17.
The sole survivor, Thomas Bayer, 16, crawled out the front windscreen of the Statesman moments before it burst into flames.
