Fraser, who trails Thai stalwart Thaworn Wiratchant by $25,260 heading into the final Order of Merit title event on the Asian Tour, yesterday said he was eager to finish the year on a high note.
The right-hander led at the halfway stage of the Australian Open in Sydney only to fall away with disastrous rounds of 76, 81 to plummet to equal 41st position.
“Hopefully, I can pick myself up off the ground and get ready for this week,” Fraser said.
“Absolutely gutted would be an understatement from the weekend.
“To be in that position after the first two rounds and then play like I did is something I never want to experience again.
“More than anything, I felt sorry for the family and friends who had high hopes up after the first two days.”
Fraser has pocketed $652,344 from his limited 10 Asian Tour appearances this year but his decision to take part in the Australian Open last week allowed Thawaron to stretch his lead at the Thailand championships.
The Border player is without a win on tour this year but has four top-four finishes in lucrative events co-sanctioned with the European Tour. He is on a dual mission at the Iskandar Johor Open — he also has his sights on breaking into the world top 50, and earn a spot in next year’s four majors.
He is ranked 59.
