Springdale Heights man Jamie Dean Bleakley produced a driving display sure to grab the attention of the officers in the police vehicle ahead.
Bleakley’s Ford XR8 sedan began spinning out of control when travelling north on Wagga Road, at Lavington, about 9.50pm on November 6.
It spun around twice — narrowly avoiding two other cars — before coming to rest partially in the southbound lanes.
He began driving towards an approaching police vehicle and went back to his side of the road but the police stopped Bleakley in Kaylock Road.
The circumstances of his dangerous driving were outlined in Albury Local Court yesterday.
Bleakley, 28, of Kaitler’s Road, pleaded guilty to driving with the high-range prescribed concentration of alcohol and being an unaccompanied learner.
Magistrate Tony Murray opted to get a pre-sentence report saying the father of three had a bad record with previous drink-driving offences in both Victoria and NSW.
“This is not the first time you have come before the court for this type of matter,” Mr Murray said when adjourning sentencing until February.
Police said there was a high degree of danger for Bleakley and other motorists.
He lost control when two other cars were nearby and they narrowly avoided a collision.
Bleakley produced a NSW learner’s licence with an expiry date of November 2, 2017.
“I have been drinking. I will go over,” he told police at the time.
A check of the vehicle showed the rear tyres were smooth and unroadworthy.
Bleakley received infringement notices for the defects.
There was no licensed driver in the car with him.
He was later taken to the police station and a breath analysis gave a reading of .172 per cent.
