Vasey replaces Darren Wheeler, who the Doon Dogs are hoping to keep as a player.
The club’s vice-president Terry Dale said Vasey wanted a multi-year deal.
“He’s been talking about a five-year plan,” Dale said yesterday.
“He’s a pretty knowledgable footballer.
“I think he will bring a lot to the club.
“He’s a very smart operator.
“He wants to continue to develop the young fellows at the club.”
Vasey has been restricted to just 16 games in the past two seasons due to injury. He played four matches this season.
Dale said Vasey was likely to be a non-playing coach.
Bonnie Doon is the last of the 14 clubs to appoint a coach for the 2013 season.
The Doon Dogs finished 10th in 2012, winning six games.
