The number of tourists is expected to grow further this weekend in the lead-up to New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Craig McCoy, from Tallangatta Takeaway, said the barometer for the flow of tourists was bookings at the Lakelands Caravan Park.
“The number of people staying there is always a good guide and that appears to be up this year,” Mr McCoy said.
“The water is always an attraction.
“This time of the year is always regarded as the cream on the cake for businesses like ours.”
The caravan park has been booked out this week with many of its regulars returning for their annual holidays and some newcomers to Tallangatta.
MJ’s Bakery has also noticed a surge in tourists since Boxing Day — there were even several from European countries.
The Tallangatta Hotel, under new management, has been busy coping with all the visitors.
Former Albury media personality Wayne Lansdown took over the pub less than a month ago.
The summer holidays are also a bonus for locals who pick up casual employment at businesses looking to cash in on the tourist dollar.
