They say the driver of an old Holden was involved in a short police chase after being allegedly clocked at almost 50km/h over the speed limit and crossing double lines to overtake tourist traffic on the Snow Road.
Sgt Mick Savage, of Wangaratta police, said the car was impounded after the chase.
“Police detected a 1984 brown Holden Statesman travelling at 149kmp/h in a 100km/h zone on the Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road around 9.20am,” he said.
“Highway Patrol members attempted to intercept the vehicle when the driver refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
“The pursuit lasted less than two minutes and police intercepted the Statesman on Whorouly Road in Whorouly.”
A Markwood man, 50, is expected to be charged on summons with conduct endangering life, evading police and other traffic-related offences.
