TEENAGE arsonists are believed to be responsible for a fire that saw flames lick the side of the Hume Freeway in the middle of Wodonga yesterday.
The fire broke out about 4pm about 500 metres from the intersection with the Lincoln Causeway.
Witnesses say boys were seen running from the scene.
The flames climbed the embankment from the Wodonga Creek side of the freeway close to the underpass that leads from the stock bridge and were clearly visible from the interstate thoroughfare near the northbound Lincoln Causeway exit.
Smoke also covered both sides of the dual carriageway.
Three fire trucks took little time in dousing the fire and then mopped up the smouldering trees.
A CFA officer at the scene admitted the fire was suspicious.
