Miss Universe contestant and swimwear model Rachael Finch kept up the keeping-everything-under-wraps trend for celebrity brides when she wed her Russian-born ballroom dancing partner, Michael Miziner, in an intimate, sun-drenched ceremony on Thursday afternoon.
The stunning Spanish-style venue, at a private mansion in Woollahra, had limited access to the public via a laneway and could only seen by air. Fairfax Media managed to snoop while the wedding pews were being set up for the service hours ahead of the ceremony, although security was already sweeping the venue in a bid to keep their exclusive magazine deal, believed to be with New Idea. Deals such of this can head into the six-figures.
But the stunning bride - who met her groom when they tangoed together on Seven's Dancing With The Stars and fell instantly and intensively in love - didn't plan on a surprise guest to Sydney ruining her wedding picture exclusives.
With diva Mariah Carey in town, the model, who has just been announced as the ambassador for summer stone fruits, was followed in her wedding cars - a white Cadillac Escalade and an Audi Q7 - by paparazzi to the service, where tones of Stand By Me could be heard. Bridesmaids were seen getting out of the car in pistachio-coloured Grecian style gowns with their hair swept up, but Finch was shielded.
Photographers had mistakenly thought they were following Carey and her twins Moroccan and Monroe, and didn't realise they had stumbled on another celebrity exclusive by accident.
Finch has previously spoken about her wedding plans, saying she was low-key and hoping for a relaxed, peaceful environment on her big day.
With a very small and intimate guest list of no more than 50 people largely from her hometown in Townsville, who were kept in the dark about the location until hours before, Finch had expressed her desire to keep things simple.
She has also spoken openly on her relationship with Miziner, who proposed with a 1.2 carat ring in August 2011, who she calls her best friend - telling Fairfax Media in the lead up to the event it was like having a girlfriend and fiance wrapped in one.
''He's like having a girlfriend to organise the wedding with,'' she gushed. ''He's really involved - from music, to invitations, to bridesmaids dresses to locations, he's across every detail and we discuss everything!''
Her gown, which she has described as the opposite of extravagant, was made by Paddington designer Steven Khalil. The honeymoon is top secret.
Finch and Miziner are among a fleet of celebrities tying the knot this summer in Sydney - starting with sparkly frock designer Rachel Gilbert and celebrity chippie Tom Williams who wed in November, Summer Bay pin-up Dan Ewing and his wife Marni Little who tied the knot two weeks ago, along with Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster. This weekend will see footballer Benji Marshall and Zoe Balbi wed along with Home and Away stars Rebecca Breeds and Luke Mitchell
