He will replace outgoing principal Angela Killingsworth, who has been appointed to a consultant role with the Catholic Education Office and will start on April 16, the first day of term two.
Recently installed Bishop of Sandhurst, Les Tomlinson, has approved the appointment of Mr Seiter, who was principal of Galen College at Wangaratta for 10 years.
Mr Seiter will return to Wodonga from two years in Papua New Guinea working with principals.
Parish priest Father Dennis Crameri said the permanent principal position would be advertised for a third time in July.
“Our intent is to find the very best principal to lead Catholic College into the future,” he said.
“It is becoming a big issue for all schools.
“The job is pretty tough.”
Mr Seiter’s wife Marilyn also taught at Catholic College Wodonga and their sons Luke and Matthew were educated there.
Ms Killingsworth has been principal of the college since 2006 and accepted the Catholic Education Office role in October last year.
“Dave is a people person so it won’t take him long to reacquaint himself with our school community,” Father Crameri said.
“I also acknowledge the outstanding contribution Angela has made to our college and parish.
“All associated with Angela appreciate her energy, wisdom and commitment and I wish her all the best.”
