MOST burglars might avoid rubbish but not at Rutherglen — someone has raided the town’s garbage dump.
Acting Sgt Phil Ryder, of Rutherglen police, said the thieves broke in through the high fencing around the transfer station last Friday.
He said they had stolen recycled metal, a hydraulic ram used on bulldozers and a sewing machine among other loot.
“It was some really junky stuff,” Sgt Ryder said.
“They must be looking at recycling metal — we’re not sure why.”
The haul carries some worth, however, with the stolen goods valued at about $2000.
