THE heat kept the big numbers away but the Wangaratta Rodeo still managed to draw a thousand people to Saturday’s event.
Organiser Matt Darmody, who was Wangaratta’s rodeo clown for about 12 years, but he barely got out in the ring on Saturday as he was so busy.
He said about 1000 people turned up to the Wangaratta Showgrounds to watch the cowboys.
He said a highlight was Tooma farmer and national rodeo champion Brad Pearce, who won the memorial bull ride, staying on for the eight seconds.
Mr Darmody said numbers were slightly down due to the heat but crowds started to trickle in after 8pm when the temperature started to drop.
