NORTH Albury celebrated the first round of the Albury and District season with two wins on Saturday.
North Albury’s grade 3 team accounted for Commercial 61-50 in an absorbing contest.
North Albury’s Bernie Mahlo was too good for David Barnes 23-15 but Albert Allen soon helped Commercial to its first win, defeating David Benbow 21-13.
In the third rink Col Dwyer defeated Graeme Kilner to complete the two rinks to one victory.
The news got even better for North Albury after it defeated Holbrook by four shots in a cliffhanger.
Stephen Broad, from North Albury, only just crept over the line against Gavin Jones and he was supported by Noel Trainor who won his rink by five shots.
Holbrook’s Duane Crow won Holbrook’s only rink.
He defeated Norm Honey 22-20.
In the weekend’s only other contest Henty secured a resounding 19-shot victory against Howlong, 71-52.
Glen Harrison was too good for Phil Slater and he got Henty off to a perfect start with a 24-17 win.
Kerry Boyle helped the contest in Henty’s favour, defeating Wally Bourne by 11 shots and despite his best efforts Russell Schmidt was unable to deliver Howlong’s first rink win.
He was defeated 16-15.
