AUSTRALIA’S favourite chicken-munching, tattoo-covered brotherly music duo has pulled out of next week’s Paddy’s Albury Sounds of Summer gig.
International rockers Joel and Benji Madden won’t perform at Paddy’s on Thursday next week or the following night at The Capital Wagga.
The reason why the founders of US punk band Good Charlotte won’t appear is unknown.
But Armada Hospitality — the company responsible for securing the Maddens’ gig — is “tens of thousands of dollars” out of pocket.
Armada’s director of operations Craig Shearer was gutted at the news the twins wouldn’t be at Paddy’s.
“It’s a massive disappointment,” Mr Shearer said.
“We were pretty stunned when we were told the guys weren’t coming.
“Outlaying tens of thousands of dollars for the bookings to fall through at the last minute is obviously not great. We’re gutted.”
Armada looks after the planning, operations and marketing of venues owned by Forvic Hotels, including Paddy’s and The Capital.
The Maddens have strong ties with Australia and have been on TV screens recently, promoting KFC.
The ads have created controversy, with reports both brothers were at one time vegetarians and members of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
Joel, who is married to US actor and singer Nicole Richie, became a household name in Australia as a judge on top-rating TV talent show The Voice Australia.
Benji was once engaged to the Australian singer, model andactress Sophie Monk.
Mr Shearer said he understood that many people would be disappointed at the news the punk rockers weren’t coming to Albury.
He expected to announce in the next few weeks replacement gigs that would be held in the second weekend in March.
“We did everything in our power to make it happen but it just wasn’t possible,” Mr Shearer said.
Australian electro-house trio The Potbelleez and US pop-dance singer Wynter Gordon performed at Paddy’s earlier in the summer.
