Bogus email warning

BORDER residents are being urged to delete a bogus email claiming to be from VISA.

Hume Building Society received half a dozen reports from customers over the past week concerned about the dodgy email.

The email refers to their account being restricted due to fraudulent use and encourages the customer to enter detailed information about their card and account in order to lift the restriction.

Hume’s general manager of customer service, sales and marketing, Melissa Sweetland, said that to their knowledge there had been no one duped by the scam and they hoped to keep it that way.

“These emails serve as a timely reminder that residents will not be contacted by a financial institution or a third party seeking such privileged information via phone or email,” she said.

“If residents do receive the email they should delete it immediately and should not adhere to the request to enter personal information.”

The subject on the email reads: please review this notification urgently.

Ms Sweetland said residents should contact their financial institution immediately if they have given their details to this scam, or any other scam.
