THE Albury and District Bowling Association’s triples championship at Holbrook on Sunday was won by a North Albury team.
The team of Norm Honey, Conan Trainor and Noel Trainor had a 28-20 victory against a Commercial Club team in the final.
Honey played as a substitute after moving from Howlong to play pennant at North Albury.
It is the second district championship for the Trainors this season.
A week earlier they claimed the district fours with Noel skipping the rink.
They had a 23-15 semi-final win against the Lavington Panthers combination of Benny Reis, Arthur Jenner and skip Clarrie Klepiak on Sunday morning.
Their success was set up early and they led 13-2 after seven ends.
The Commercial Club team of Trevor Fribence, Les Murphy and George Cocks had a narrow 21-20 win in the other semi-final.
They defeated North Albury’s Phil Schuster, Cyril Fruend and skip Gerald O’Brien.
It was close throughout after Cocks’ team got a 6-0 lead but O’Brien closed the gap.
Cocks was leading 21-18 going into the final end and conceded two shots, but held on for a win.
Trainor’s team similarly started well in the final and had a strangehold on the title early.
They led 11-3 after seven ends and held a handy margin throughout.
The game was called off with one end remaining and Trainor having an unbeatable lead.
His team has qualified for the Zone 8 (Riverina) playoffs later this year.
