Mystery cyclist wanted in Yarrawonga theft case

DETECTIVES from Cobram have released images of a cyclist in Yarrawonga they want to talk to after a series of business burglaries netted $10,000 in one night.

Detective Sen-Constable Jason Williams wants to talk to a man who rode a bicycle past the Terminus Hotel in Belmore Street on Monday at 3.15am.

That was about the same time as the burglaries.

“He may be an innocent person going home, but we seek to identify that person so we can eliminate them from our inquiry,” Sen-Constable Williams said.

“If it is you, if you’re there for a legitimate reason, fine, but please let us know so we can eliminate you.”

Sen-Constable Williams asked anyone who recognised the man to contact police.

The release of the closed-circuit television footage comes as detectives try to identify the two or three people who broke into six businesses on Yarrawonga’s main street between midnight and 6am on Monday.

The burglars covered their faces with hooded jumpers and baseball caps and worked their way down Belmore Street using an iron bar and screwdriver to force open doors, smash windows and ransack cash boxes and safes of businesses.

Six businesses were broken into and they tried to break into a seventh.

The six-hour operation took more than $10,000 in cash from the traders.

Details can ben given to Cobram detectives on (03) 5871 1977 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
