A NORTH Albury man who tried to elude police in a pursuit has been given a seven-month suspended jail sentence.
Craig Atkinson, 29, appeared in Albury Local Court yesterday for sentencing on charges of failing to stop in a pursuit, disqualified driving, entering enclosed lands and goods in custody.
The pursuit began in Ryan Road about 12.25am on December 3 and police later found Atkinson’s car abandoned in Buckingham Street.
He attempted to elude police by jumping fences into house yards near his Mate Street residence but, in the process, suffered a deep cut to his right wrist.
A police perimeter kept him contained while officers searched and finally found him.
Atkinson was taken to Albury Base Hospital for surgery and left without being treated.
Police staked out his premises two days later and finally forced their way inside to arrest him.
When arresting Atkinson after the pursuit, police found $806 in his wallet and he claimed it was withdrawn at an ATM.
He later changed his story to say it belonged to a friend.
Magistrate Megan Greenwood imposed the suspended sentence for the pursuit and put Atkinson on a two-year bond for disqualified driving.
His driving ban was extended by 12 months and Ms Greenwood imposed no penalty on the other two charges.
She ordered the money found by police to be forfeited.
