CULCAIRN’S Colin Brown has dedicated his Order of Australia Medal to those who influenced his career as an educator.
The former principal of Yanco Agricultural High School, from 2002 to 2009, said he felt humbled to be recognised in the Australia Day honours.
“There are some people I worked with who I hold in high esteem and I am humbled to have my name put forward,” he said.
He cited former principal of Murray High School, John Dowling, and former principal at Billabong High School, Hugh Cameron, as those who had influenced his career since he worked at both schools.
Mr Brown, who was educated in Sydney, was a teacher in the city for four years before moving to the country.
“I deliberately moved to the country and never returned,” he said.
“I moved to the Riverina for the rural lifestyle and ran a farm throughout those years as an interest.”
Mr Brown has retired from teaching and now enjoys interviewing the cream of the crop for university places in rural medicine in NSW.
