Assault witnesses sought

POLICE are seeking witnesses to the assault of a Wangaratta teenager on a train from Melbourne.

Leading Sen-Constable Jason Borbidge, of Wangaratta police, said the 15-year-old girl was travelling from Melbourne to Wangaratta on Thursday.

Between noon and 1pm, when the train was between Euroa and Benalla, Sen-Constable Borbidge said the girl was assaulted by the passenger seated beside her.

He said the girl did not know the man, 35, from Young in NSW.

Sen-Constable Borbidge said the girl went to a staff member.

“She was pretty upset,” he said.

The man faces charges of an indecent act with a child under 16.

Sen-Constable Borbidge said he needed to talk to passengers in carriage D.

He said passengers who saw any part of the incident, or noticed the man and the girl could contact him at Wangaratta on (03) 5723 0888 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
