Cancer centre safe from cuts

THE Albury-Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre project will escape the cuts forced on Albury Wodonga Health.

All but $5 million of the total $75 million project is being federally funded and the balance by private providers involved in a consortium arrangement.

The states will fund ongoing costs related to cancer treatment.

Dr Stuart Spring said the private providers would handle 70 per cent of the workload and staff would include those already working in existing cancer treatment areas, both public and private.
