CRICKET Albury-Wodonga has fallen short of an historic victory, losing the SCG Cup final at Sydney today.
Merewether set Cricket Albury-Wodonga 204 runs for victory but the Border team only managed 86 in a rain-affected innings.
The Newcastle-based team took advantage of wickets in the bank to score heavily in the last 10 overs after a slow start. It finished at 3-203 off 50 overs
It took 32 overs for Merewether to bring up its first 100 and just 18 overs for its second suggesting it may have missed a chance for a bigger score.
But it proved more than competitive within a handful of overs with CAW crumbling to 3-8.
James Tonkin offered some resistance, top-scoring with 32, but CAW was not good enough for Merewether speedster Mark Cameron, who was named man of the match.
