VICTORIAN Police have confirmed suspected human remains have been found at the scene of a Whitfield fire.
Detectives held a press conference at the scene of the destroyed Whitfield General Store this afternoon.
Detective Sen-Constable Neal Thompson said at this stage the blaze was not being treated as suspicious.
However the cause of the fire or where it started is yet to be established by investigators.
The Country Fire Authority was called to the burning building, 50 kilometres south of Wangaratta, at about 3.50am.
Ten tankers were involved in fighting the fire, but the shop was completely destroyed.
Whitfield has population of 421 people.
