Service return honour for duo

LONG-time state administrators Pat Gilchrist and Carol Pearce yesterday received Tennis Victoria service awards.

Gilchrist and Pearce, who have been involved in Victorian Country Week since it moved from Albury to Swan Hill in 1991, have helped grow the number of teams from 60 to 200 in two decades.

Only 86 awards have been handed out by Tennis Victoria.

“It’s a complete surprise,” Gilchrist said.

“This is a real honour.

“You don’t go into these things for awards, but when they come along they are pretty good.”

Gilchrist and Pearce were presented the service awards by Tennis Victoria chief executive officer Matt Kennedy at the Wod- onga Tennis Centre.

“They have done an enormous amount of work over the years,” he said.
