The April 6 event will raise money for mental health and suicide prevention, including the bid to build a therapeutic room at the Wodonga Youth Refuge to prevent residents self-harming.
The Rotaract club will become official next month.
But its founders are already looking for members and appealing for volunteers, donations and sponsorship for their inaugural gala at the Commercial Club.
Member and nursing student Kloi-Jayd vanRoevan said the gala would provide an opportunity for young people facing challenges to spend time together.
“I’ve been where these kids are and through the other side,” she said.
“Back then, I would have loved something like this event, to go somewhere when you’re not made to feel like a freak.”
The group is running a mental health writing competition ahead of the event, with the winner to receive a free gala ticket and entries to be displayed on the night.
Meetings are held every second Wednesday at The Place youth centre in Lavington.
