Cats sharpen up with signing

REIGNING premier Osborne has rebounded from several off-season departures by signing former club best-and-fairest winner Malcolm Douglas.

Douglas is set to boost the Cats midfield and help cover the loss of Des Kennedy medallist Rory Muggivan, Trent Perczyk, Dan O’Connell, Andrew Clarke and James and Stace Creasy.

The former Osborne junior won the Hume league thirds best-and-fairest in 2006 before taking out the Cats’ senior award the following season.

Douglas has spent the past three seasons with Canberra club Belconnen Magpies.

“Malcolm is locked in and it’s a step in the right direction after losing the players we have during the off-season,” coach Daniel McAlister said.

“He won a best and fairest in his first year of senior footy so there is no doubting his ability.

“We are still on the lookout for further recruits but are mindful we have got plenty of young talent coming through the ranks.

“I’ve got plenty of faith in the kids and am confident we can remain a league heavyweight.”
