THE Border’s rising stars will be in action in the Albury-Wodonga Triathlon Club’s twilight junior triathlon at Allans Flat this weekend.
In one of the biggest weekends of the season, the club will stage the junior event on Saturday evening followed by the popular sprint distance triathlon on Sunday morning.
The junior triathlon is open to boys and girls aged 10 to 16 years and will comprise a 150-metre open water swim, five-kilometre ride and 1.5 kilometre run.
This will be followed by the sub junior (under 10) event.
Club vice-president Peter Hudec said there had been huge demand from parents and youngsters for a dedicated event that caters for juniors, especially those racing for the first time.
“They are the future of our sport and we want to ensure that we offer them the opportunity to be involved and to be able to compete against their peers in a safe and controlled manner,” he said.
Registration for Saturday’s event opens at 4.30pm with the race starting at 5.30pm.
Sunday’s sprint distance triathlon will include a 500-metre swim, 20-kilometre cycle and five-kilometre run.
