Dawson ‘perfect fit’ for league

THE league believes Greg Dawson’s football experience will be invaluable after appointing him operations officer.

Dawson will start the full-time position soon, after leaving his post as Wodonga Raiders general manager after two years.

Dawson, who followed his son Matt to Birallee Park, spent almost a decade with Albury before moving to the Raiders.

New O and M boss Aaron McGlynn, the league’s former operations officer, said yesterday Dawson was the perfect fit for the role.

“As well as boasting a thorough knowledge of the league’s operations, Greg has extensive experience in club operations at both senior and junior level as well as event management and business operations,” McGlynn said.

To help the transition, Dawson, 58, will stay involved with Raiders for a month while he starts his position with the league.

He said he was excited by the opportunity to work for the league.

“I thought about it about three years ago but I wasn’t quite ready.

“My son’s now at university in Ballarat and I felt it was a good time.”
