A CLOSE-knit group of Rutherglen firefighters, pub owners and wine makers is throwing its support behind those affected by the Harrietville bushfire.

In the wake of the cancellation of the Cool Summer Festival on Mount Hotham — an annual event showcasing the Alpine region in Summer — the group is staging a supporting gig.

Winemaker Ben Gayfer came up with the idea.

The event is aimed at raising money to keep the Mount Hotham festival going next year.

The festival starts tomorrow from 2pm at Rutherglen’s Victoria Hotel, boasting many of the bands that had been booked to play on the mountain.

Musicians will come from across the region including Beechworth band Hunter Gatherer, Myrtleford’s Mandy Collins and Rutherglen’s Dave Daly.
