Rory Sheridan, 22, appeared in Wodonga Magistrates Court yesterday on a charge of being an accessory after the fact to a serious indictable offence of escape and one charge of aiding and abetting.
His solicitor, Mario Vaccaro, didn’t seek bail and no more details of allegations against Sheridan were tendered.
Magistrate John Murphy remanded Sheridan until August 8 to allow police time to prepare a brief of evidence.
Carruth escaped from Beechworth jail on Monday, July 9, three weeks before an expected early release, and took a taxi to Wodonga before making his way to Melbourne.
He told Beechworth resident Adrian Osborne his car had broken down.
He caught a cab with Beechworth Taxis owner Noel Evans to Wodonga, where he was met by a friend who paid the fare.
In the following days, police searched trains and buses in the Wodonga area before Carruth was captured last Thursday afternoon at a Melbourne hotel.
Melbourne Magistrates Court was told on Friday that Carruth had sought to rekindle his relationship with his former partner and regain contact with his daughter.
Carruth was arrested at the Quest apartments in the north-east suburb of Alphington.
He had a stolen laptop, a quantity of methamphetamine and more than $1500 cash with him.
He pleaded guilty to escaping lawful custody, possessing the proceeds of crime and possessing and using a drug of dependence.
He was sentenced to six months in jail, including a two-month non-parole period.
