HELICOPTER water bombers have again been used to suppress a fire in rugged territory north of Albury.
Yesterday the “Mirradong” fire at Yambla Range, east of Gerogery that was started by lightning on Thursday afternoon, was listed as contained, crews working overnight and through the day to black out hot spots.
NSW Rural Fire Service’s Julie Bartlett said the remote location proved demanding.
“It was on private land and no property was under threat but some of the firefighters had to walk in with a rake hoe and knapsack,” she said.
“We also needed the helicopters just to douse some of the flare-ups on Saturday.”
Ms Bartlett said seven tankers and 22 firefighters were also involved in backburning to strengthen containment lines.
